I am 48 years old and my entire life I’ve have heard was taught and lived the Vietnam War era. There are songs, movies, and documentaries that have been playing my entire life. The good, the bad and the crazy have been presented to me a million different ways!
So the other day when it was announced that Covid-19 has taken more deaths then the entire Vietnam War I had to take pause and put that together in my head. First, my estranged father was involved in the Vietnam War. His personality and erratic behavior over my lifetime were always blamed on that War. His drinking, verbal and mental insults to us kids and mother always went back to that crazy war that resulted in, I really don’t know. Protests, War Memorials, Monuments all over this country created a love/hate and basically the downfall of U.S. President Nixon, among other things. Even though his policy was to end the war, which took more than 5 years, it is documented how he actually escalated the war with secret bombings, raids, missions, etc.
Now I am not writing this to debate the Vietnam War. But I find it a little strange and crazy how in the year of 2020 more than 66,000 people have died from a serious virus and President Trump continues to downplay, misinform and frankly politize how great of a job he as done over something that has now become a bigger threat to the United States then most countries have threatened us before.
Think about this….seriously. Put all politics and political party opinions aside and think about 66,000 people, and counting, dying every day from this virus. Let’s take a short review of who is actually protecting and fighting for ALL AMERICANS, which, by the way, ticks me off more than anything. A President should be President for everyone no matter if you agree or not on all policies. That is what an American President, not Republican, not Democrat or Independent, is supposed to do for the American People.
Let’s review that Words & Truth Matter when it comes to communicating to the American People:
Jan. 27th: “We have it totally under control. … It’s going to be just fine.”
Feb. 7th: “when we get into April, in the warmer weather—that has a very negative effect on that, and that type of a virus.”
Feb 25: “You may ask about the coronavirus, which is very well under control in our country. We have very few people with it, and the people that have it are … getting better. They’re all getting better. … As far as what we’re doing with the new virus, I think that we’re doing a great job.”
Feb 28th: “It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”
Multiple Dates: If the economic shutdown continues, deaths by suicide “definitely would be in far greater numbers than the numbers that we’re talking about” for COVID-19 deaths.
March 6th:“Anybody that needs a test gets a test. We – they’re there. They have the tests. And the tests are beautiful.”
March 11th: Private Health companies “agreed to waive all co-payments for coronavirus treatments, extend insurance coverage to these treatments, and to prevent surprise medical billing.”
March 13th: President Obama H1NI response “a full-scale disaster, with thousands dying, and nothing meaningful done to fix the testing problem, until now.” (12,469 Americans died of H1NI)
March 17th: “I’ve always known this is a real—this is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic … I’ve always viewed it as very serious.”
Multiple Dates: The Trump White House “inherited” a “broken,” “bad,” and “obsolete” test for the coronavirus.
March 19th: At a press briefing with his coronavirus task force, Trump said the FDA had approved the antimalarial drug chloroquine to treat COVID-19. “Normally the FDA would take a long time to approve something like that, and it’s—it was approved very, very quickly and it’s now approved by prescription,” he said.
March 24th: The United States has outpaced South Korea’s COVID-19 testing: “We’re going up proportionally very rapidly,” Trump said during a Fox News town hall.
April 27th: “Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light and I think you said that hasn’t been checked but you’re going to test it,” Trump said at the briefing.
“And then I see the disinfectant. Where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that by injections inside or almost a cleaning, cause you to see it get on the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs.”
Now, this is a small sample of the numerous amount of “Factual Lies” that our President has spoken directly to the American people. These are not arguments or opinions but actual misleading and false statements. How can the American public trust and follow any information that comes out of our Government if the Leader of the Free World is misleading us all? Again….people are dying. Just because we cannot see the carnage, bullets flying or bombs blowing up that this is now one of the biggest attacks not only in the United States but the World.
One other small point to this current leadership that is also disturbing and misleading is the fact that this White House continues to boast about how great they are and how everything is solved. Now when I was involved in businesses before I retired, when any employee continuing told me how great a job they were doing…..I was suspicious. And rightly so usually those people were not doing a great job when you check their work or talked to others around them. Basically that person would be fired.
I believe in good conscious that our President of the United States should be fired. I don’t care if another Republican or Democrat takes his place, but we deserve the truth always, especially when lives are at stake.
